The science has made it clear: If we’re going to save our health and save our planet, we need to take serious action on climate change now. Tina believes the country has a choice to make: either we can lead or we can follow. Tina believes the U.S. should be a leader in the fight, because it’s good for our health, it’s good for our planet, and it’s good for our economy. Some may think that a clean energy future takes away jobs, but – in fact – clean energy jobs are the future.
In the Senate, Tina is proud to have introduced a bold plan to correct the course our country is on. Along with U.S. Representative Ben Ray Luján, she authored and introduced the Clean Energy Standard Act that establishes a federal clean energy standard and sets us up to achieve net-zero emissions from the electricity sector by mid-century. This legislation also allows each state to decide the best path for them to reach net-zero emissions from electricity and encourages the development of new zero-emission technologies.
It’s also important for Minnesota’s pristine land, water, and air to be protected. So Tina fought to protect Lake Superior from cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and championed renewable energy funding in the Farm Bill. Additionally, Tina supports legislative efforts to encourage conservation practices for farmers.
And as Lt. Governor, Tina helped Minnesota become a leader in clean energy by leading the fight for “50% by 2030” renewable electric standard and expanding the use of renewables in state government that saved over $20 million.
Tina’s strong environmental record earned her the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and the National Resources Defense Council.
