LETTER: Tina Smith will work to lower rising costs of higher education

To the Editor:

I am a student at Wayzata High School. My fellow students and I have always dreamt of going to college and building a future for ourselves. But now that dream seems to be beyond reach, especially for my classmates with less income. It has become so expensive to go to a four-year college that even if I take out loans, and I am not sure that I can keep up with the cost.

Sadly, I know I am not alone. Too many of my classmates are faced with adjusting, delaying or even all together abandoning their dreams because of the unreasonable costs of a college education that requires an enormous amount of money. It gives me hope to know that Sen. Tina Smith is working to address this issue. She has met with students across Minnesota to hear about our concerns and our aspirations – and she has been working on legislation to address this issue since her first day in the Senate.

We believe that we need to send Sen. Smith back to Washington so that she can lead the fight and finally do something about the rising cost of higher education. I’m voting for her in the DFL Primary Election on Aug. 14 because I know she will work for me in D.C.
