ST. PAUL [09/15/20]—In new, previously unseen video footage, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Jason Lewis once declared that he “get[s] a little itchy” when he hears the term “bipartisan”—making it clear he will put his own rigid views ahead of what’s best for Minnesota and working with others to get things done.
Lewis made the remarks when he co-hosted a public affairs show called Face-to-Face. Watch the video here.
Lewis has a long history of pushing his own partisan views at the expense of what is best for Minnesota families, and even went as far as saying he has “no disagreements” with President Trump. Whether it was when he unsuccessfully tried to repeal the ACA and protections for millions of people with pre-existing conditions, or when he was the only member of the Minnesota Congressional delegation to vote against the 2018 Farm Bill, Lewis has shown he is unwilling to work on behalf of Minnesotans.
In contrast, Sen. Smith has a record of working across the aisle to get things done. For example, she fought for a spot on the Senate Agriculture Committee because it’s historically been a place where Democrats and Republicans work together to find common ground. Sen. Smith understands just how important it is to lift up agriculture, and small towns and rural communities, and she was focused on getting to work and helping pass the strong, bipartisan Farm Bill that Lewis voted against.
Voters don’t have to wonder whether Sen. Smith will work across party lines to benefit Minnesotans. She’s proven time and time again that she’ll work with anyone and do whatever it takes to get things done for the people of Minnesota such as helping to lower the price of insulin, expanding tele-mental health care access, or providing free diagnostic COVID-19 testing.
Meanwhile, Jason Lewis acts as if he’s allergic to bipartisanship.
